My name is Emily and I am a Superstar Student because I'm good and nice, I do what I'm supposed to do in school, and I don't talk when I'm not supposed to.  My favorite subject in school is Specialist.  My favorite food is strawberries.  My favorite thing to do is write.  The names of the people in my family are Blanca, Tomas, Aleidy, Jonathan, and Camila.  We are from Sunnyside and we like to go on trips.  I am a Superstar Student!!!

Back to work!

Following a long weekend, Mr. Lund's class got back to work and took a Reading Benchmark Test.  Mr. Lund told them to be like Poppy and be determined.  "I read the question as many times as I have to," said Damian.

Happy Halloween!

Hope everybody had fun and was safe!  Mr. Lund's class had a pizza party and watched Scooby Doo.

French Lessons

Some Sunnyside High School French students stopped by to teach a few French phrases, words, and numbers to Mr. Lund's class.  They learned the numbers 1-10, the alphabet, "My name is_________.  What is your name?" and as you can see in the pictures, "Head, shoulders, knees, and toes."  It was fun!

A Dissolving Race

Mr. Lund's Class did a science experiment to find out which solution would dissolve faster, hot or cool.  Every team found out that "Hot" dissolved faster, but some had to stir their solutions more than others.  "The hot dissolves way faster!" said Julian.

"Poppy" read in!

After doing the hard work in the first 3 sections of Poppy, Mr. Lund's class finished the book by having a "read in."  No distractions, just enjoying the end of a great book!

Mid-quarter Grades!

Expect to receive your mid-quarter grades by Friday this week.  Make sure and have them signed.  We are working hard to improve everybody's knowledge and be super ready for 4th Grade!

Get Into Reading!

Students are learning the C.I.A. method of reading, which breaks each story into 4 sections.  In the 2nd section of a story, we focus on the main character.  Today, students looked at the Cat character in "The Cat Who Became a Poet."  "The Cat was confused after he ate the Mouse" said Sarahi.

My name is Marisol and I am a Superstar Student because I'm kind to people, I help people when they get hurt, and I love to help people.  My favorite subject in school is Science.  My favorite food is pizza. My favorite thing to do is work.  The names of the people in my family are Rachel, Virginia, Jose and me (Maro).  We are from Washington and we like to go to dinner together.  I am a Superstar Student!

Focus on math

Mr. Lund's class has been working on always showing our work.  Each student has a white board to show a lot of their math work every day.  "I love my white board!" said Julian.

We also know, though, that practice is very important.  To practice addition facts, we've been playing math games in the afternoon.  One game involves using "doubles" and "doubles plus one."  "Practicing doubles is fun!" said Irene.

Welcome Mr. Lund's Class!!!!!

We have had a good first two days of class.  We are getting to know each other better and getting acquainted with the schedule.  Please remember to keep checking this blog.  We'll update it a couple times per week, and every time the class watches a video it will be put on the side of the blog as well:)

Top of the mountain!

I hiked up Mount Si http://www.mountsi.com/, which is 30 miles east of Seattle.  I probably lost 10 pounds just from sweating, but it was fun and beautiful!  I hope you're enjoying your summer and taking time to read every day.  I know I am!!!

Get Exercise/Have Fun!

Mr. Lund has been visiting Seattle for a few days.  On Saturday, he took a bike ride along the Burke-Gilman Trail on his trustee bike.  He knew there's a lot to see on this trail, but today there were surprises. http://www.kingcounty.gov/recreation/parks/trails/regionaltrailssystem/burkegilman.aspx

He wound up at a parade/festival for the Solstice (the longest day of the year...when the sun "sol" is in its highest place).  The marching band was playing "Gangnam Style" when I took the picture.

 

 

A Week of Fun!

The final week of the year was full of fun activities.  First, Mr. Lund's class became the tug of war champions for 3rd grade!

Then, we went to the pool.

Then we had field day, bounce houses, and got sprayed by the Sunnyside Firemen.

And finally, we saw the graduating 5th graders off before having a short dance party to end the year.
