Bee Projects

In addition to learning about plants, we've been learning about bees and other pollinators.  Students read 7 articles about bees and made posters about them.  "Did you know that a bee colony can hold up to 60,000 bees?!?" said Anthony Martinez.

Flower dissection

On Friday, Mr. Lund's class dissected flowers to see what each part is (petals, anthers, pistil, stigma, eggs).  They kept the dissected flowers in a page of their science notebook.  "This is really cool," said Mia Hernandez.

!Feliz Cinco de Mayo a todos!

Pioneer students had a special treat on Friday.  To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, the Harrison Mariachi Club came by and played beautiful songs.

Then later in the day, Pepe's Bakery brought a delicious Mexican flag cookie to each kid in the entire school!  What a great day.

Biography: Martin Luther King Jr.

We've begun reading a biography of Martin Luther King Jr.  To introduce this, students looked at pictures from America from the "Jim Crow" segregation era.  It was powerful for some.  "Segregation was messed up" said Sofia Cohetzaltitla.

AR party...raptors!!!

Fifteen of Mr. Lund's students went to the awesome AR party today (celebrating 3rd quarter's goals).  They got to see a (from left) peregrine falcon, a red-tailed hawk, a barn owl, and a great horned owl.  It was a really fun time!

Tracking our plants.

For just over two weeks, we've been following our "Wisconsin Fast Plants" to see how much they've grown.  We know that plants need water, air, and sun.  Look at the progress on those plants!
